Florida
Welcome to Florida
When it comes to Florida you tend to thing of two things, Mickey Mouse and beautiful
beaches. Firstly the beaches in Florida must be the very best in America with the superb
weather and the stunning sand. Secondly the theme parks of Disney and others, which do make a
holiday in Florida the most perfect dream, holiday destination.
Yet many people forget to look beneath these two giant attractions, it only takes a few
minutes to start to discover the historic forts, Spanish treasure and space technology spread
around Florida. Then there are the hundreds of lakes so if you like water sports of every kind
here is the place to be, and of course the golf and tennis is out of this world and an envy of
the world.
Florida is simply a playground for children of all ages; no matter what your tastes it’s
all here. It is a good idea to have hired a car as the State of Florida is larger than the UK.
Then take time to study the wealth of information available (Travelism.com will bring you more
week by week on Florida – the Sunshine State) and plan where you want to go and what you want
to see.
A trip down to the southern most tip of Key West is a fabulous experience, driving along US
Highway 1. You will not have a care in the world left as you take in this scenic route. When
you get to Key West make sure you stay for sunset because this is a special time when people
gather on the docks and listen to the musicians, watch the entertainers and even buy something
lovely from one of the street sellers. For me Key West has a special place in my heart as it’s
where Ernest Hemingway made his home for over ten years and you can tour his home and gardens.
